When everything around you seems like it is crashing down, it can be challenging to stay positive. Even when most things in life seem to be going well, remaining positive is challenging for most of us. Many of us were socialized to recognize flaws immediately, but not the good things. As such, it seems obvious that many people tend to see the bad in life and situations, and not the good. There are ways, however, to overcome this, and stay positive during a crisis or just day to day life.We are constantly thinking. Our minds are always churning, processing thoughts. Most of us are very passive in our thinking, in that we let our minds wander. This can be hazardous if your goal is to stay positive. When your mind wanders, it can pick apart a situation and focus on all the things that are wrong. For example, if you are cooking a meal, your mind might focus on the flaws. Let's say you are making soup, and you have large slices of onion in it, but the recipe called for chopped. You could focus on how the onion is too big, the soup doesn't look right now, et cetera. Instead of focusing on the flaws, focus on the good parts. Some examples would be that the soup smells good, the soup tastes good, everyone seems to be enjoying the soup.As with many things, it is best to start small. Try to begin with just one day. For one day, be in control of your thoughts, and focus on what you are thinking. Think about all the positive things that are happening, regardless of the situations. When you focus on all the good things, it is hard not to stay positive. If it seems like there is nothing good going on, it is time to count your blessings, as they say. But if you permit it to run rampant, it can dash you to pieces on the rocks of failure. You should realize that your education, your experience, your native intelligence and your good intentions cannot alter or modify these possibilities.
